People often jokingly say…. “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. That’s their way of saying… “I plan to be an immoral moron and lie to my family about what I have done when I get home”. Well, in reality… what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas. Sexually transmitted diseases, broken teeth, wrecked cars, and criminal records, don’t get left behind at the Nevada border. The idea that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is the type of mindset that causes people to cheat on their spouses, get drunk, act like an idiot, and generally destroy their life. I know, I know… relax… relax you say, gee Eric why are you such a downer? Party pooper! you say!
Tomorrow I head off to Las Vegas to attend PubCon 2009 which is one of the most popular web publishers conventions of the year. I plan to have a ton of fun, make new business connections, and get some new tools to better serve my clients. I believe you can have a fun time without stooping to a level that causes you to deceive your family and friends.
Call me old fashioned, call me a prude, that’s fine with me, in fact I kinda like those terms. The vast majority of people my age are encouraged by movies such as The Hangover a hit movie about 3 friends drunken escapades in Las Vegas. That sounds about as funny as smashing my thumb with a hammer, why on earth would I want to see a bunch of morons acting like drunken idiots? Are people so lazy they can no longer enjoy themselves unless they act like an idiot in a drunken stooper? Not me. I guess I still under the impression that adults should act like adults yet be mature enough to enjoy life without losing one’s faculties.
So, let the fun begin… I am really excited to check out the convention hall, meet with my affiliate account representatives, and do some serious networking that might lead to new business and or business strategies. Vegas can be a fun place to visit (although I liked it better when it was run by the mob). I will be making Twitter updates all along the way so I hope you will follow me on my Las Vegas adventure.
